Sources and Benefits of Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Sources and Benefits of Omega 3 Fatty Acids

omega 3 sources

The supplement fad that never seems to end in the health & wellness scene is Omega 3. Physicians recommend it, health experts pop them like m&m’s, even our neighbour uncle can’t stop raving about it. And for good reason too. Here’s why you should jump on the Omega 3 wagon as well.

Omega 3 fatty acids are an essential part of a good diet. Due to the body’s inability to synthesize Omega 3 on its own, hence a diet rich in this particular fatty acid is extremely essential. They play an important role in your body’s functions and may provide a number of other health benefits including enhancing your skin and hair health.

Omega 3 is part of a family of essential fatty acids, and there are 3 main types of Omega 3 fatty acids that we need. These are known as ALA (Alpha-linolenic Acid), EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid), and DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid).

ALA is the most common omega 3 fatty acid – and this form is mainly used by your body for energy. Whereas, EPA is alternatively found mostly within marine animals like fish and algae. DHA is the most important of all 3 Omega-3 fatty acids. It acts as a key structural component of your brain, the retina of your eyes, and many other body parts. It is also found in animal products like EPA – fatty fish and fish oil. Some meat, eggs and dairy that come from grass-fed animals also contain significant amounts of this acid.

Omega 3s are vital for cognitive function, and the health of your eyesight. It is also quite important for pregnant women or women who are breast-feeding to get enough DHA in their diets as it can affect their baby’s health later on. It could also protect against illnesses, depression, ADHD and various inflammatory diseases.

Some of the foods rich in Omega 3 are Mackerel, Salmon, Cod Liver Oil, Herring, Oysters, Sardines, Anchovies, Caviar, Flax Seeds, Chia Seeds, Walnuts and Soybeans. There are many types of food that are rich in Omega 3, however, if you are vegetarian or don’t eat fish, etc. – you should consider taking supplements. An added bonus of supplements is that you don’t have to worry about whether you are taking too much or too less of a dose – supplements already have them measured out for you! They’re convenient, and now there’s even a plant-based option as an alternative to the well-known fish oil supplement!

WOW Life Science has a range of supplements that can suit a variety of needs. Our latest addition to this range is the WOW Life Science Krill Oil

This oil helps balance omega-3 levels, supports cardiovascular health, maintains joint health and helps deliver antioxidant protection. Krill oil is basically derived from krill – which is a shrimp-like marine animal. It is an excellent source of DHA and EPA, and the fatty acids in Krill oil are in the form of phospholipids, which are easier to absorb for the body.

Krill Oil is also known to support healthy cholesterol levels, manage oxidative stress, and reduce blood pressure. It is said to also improve blood vessel function, as well as reduce depression. One great benefit of Omega 3-rich foods and supplements is that they are fantastic for hair and skin health! It’s different from fish oil in the way that fish oil has a higher concentration of DHA and EPA than krill oil, however krill oil has more antioxidants and is more absorbable by the body. Krill also tends to have way less mercury content because they are at the bottom of the ocean’s food chain and don’t have a chance to accumulate too much mercury and other contaminants.

Krill oil is safe for most people; however, you must always remember to check with your physician before taking any supplements.

WOW Life Science Algae Omega is another supplemental Omega 3 source – and this one is vegetarian!

These capsules are formulated from Algae – which is considered a primary source of Omega 3. They do not leave a fishy aftertaste in your mouth as they do not contain any fish oil.
Algae is considered to have one of the highest concentration, and most easily accessible forms of omega 3. It is usually the primary source of omega 3 for fish and other marine animals. Due to Algae’s fast-growing and easily replaceable nature, it also makes it a much more sustainable option. And as a plant, it also won’t contribute to over-fishing.

For consumption, a lot of Algae is grown under controlled conditions, making it as free from toxins as possible – unlike fish oils that usually come from the oceans and can be contaminated. Algae supplements also have a lower risk of causing digestive issues and have a neutral flavour. And once again – they are vegetarian!

This is also safe to consume for most people, but once again, don’t forget to ask your physician before taking any supplements!

WOW Life Science Omega Fish Oil Capsules are the most known type of Omega 3 supplements that we have. Worldwide, this form of oil is the most preferred and popular way of consuming Omega 3. They’re made from anchovies, salmon from the South Pacific and North Atlantic Coasts. They are molecularly distilled and purified, as well as third-party heavy metal tested. This is a natural and non-GMO product.

Some of the additional benefits of this fish oil are that it helps reduce blood triglycerides levels and reduces inflammation.

This is also a pretty safe option for almost anyone – but check with your physician before taking any!

It’s quite hard to incorporate all the nutrients we need to live a top-quality life in today’s world – where there are more and more options, but healthy living seems to be scarcer and harder to reach. Ideally, we would all be getting our nutrients from the food we eat – but since this is not the case, our next best bet is natural supplements. It’s important to look for products that are genuine and contain the least amount of additional chemicals. This is our main pursuit at WOW Life Science.

Thanks for an enlightening blog! I have been browsing around the internet for the best advice on fish oils, and thanks to you, I found it here. The pills I had been using were a bit fishy tasting that I started disliking the entire idea of consuming fish oil pills. It is great to know that the products mentioned here do not have the slightest tinge of fishy smell or taste.
